074.005 Does the command to stay away from something mean it was being done?

وَالرُّجْزَ فَاهْجُرْ (74.5)

 

Possible misunderstanding

The verse commands the Prophet (S) to stay away from idol worship. This does not mean that the used to worship idols and that is why Allah is commanding him to stay away from them. This is understood to mean: to continue to stay away. A similar example can be found in Surah Al Fatihah when the believer recites  اهدنا الصراط المستقيم guide us to the straight path, this does not mean a Muslim is misguided and that is why he is asking for guidance. It is understood to mean keep us on the straight path.

 

 

المراد المداومة كقولنا اهدنا في سورة الفاتحة

الْمَسْأَلَةُ الثَّانِيَةُ: احْتَجَّ مَنْ جَوَّزَ الْمَعَاصِيَ عَلَى الْأَنْبِيَاءِ بِهَذِهِ الْآيَةِ، قَالَ لَوْلَا أَنَّهُ كَانَ مُشْتَغِلًا بِهَا وَإِلَّا لَمَا زُجِرَ عَنْهَا بِقَوْلِهِ: وَالرُّجْزَ فَاهْجُرْ وَالْجَوَابُ الْمُرَادُ مِنْهُ الْأَمْرُ بِالْمُدَاوَمَةِ عَلَى ذَلِكَ الْهُجْرَانِ، كَمَا أَنَّ الْمُسْلِمَ إِذَا قَالَ: اهْدِنَا فَلَيْسَ مَعْنَاهُ أَنَّا لَسْنَا عَلَى الْهِدَايَةِ فَاهْدِنَا، بَلِ الْمُرَادُ ثَبِّتْنَا عَلَى هذه الهداية، فكذا هاهنا. :ر:

أى: وداوم- أيها الرسول الكريم- على ما أنت عليه من ترك عبادة الأصنام والأوثان، ومن هجر المعاصي والآثام.

فالمقصود بهجر الرجز: المداومة على هجره وتركه، لأنه صلى الله عليه وسلم لم يلتبس بشيء من ذلك. :ط:
